Current Use of AI in Healthcare
As technology and science become more developed and advanced, there are more medicinal discoveries and treatments for ailments. Overall, the advancement of technology has resulted in various benefits in healthcare and a wider variety of treatments plans for patients. Current use of AI in healthcare AI is already transforming patient care in many different ways. One area of improvement would be clinical diagnostics and accuracy. When doing imaging and various diagnostic tests, AI far surpasses human capability, especially in speed and consistency when organizing complex datasets (Shin, 2025, 654). Delving into this, AI has been found to have superior pattern recognition capabilities in imaging. For example, when it comes to radiology and image analysis, various AI models (CCN’s) are able to quickly detect subtle anomalies in complex scans (CT, MRI, X-ray), compared to a tired or distracted radiologist that could potentially miss or misread something. An example of this would be the use of AI in medical imaging that helped to diagnose pulmonary nodules. In the study, it was seen that AI software was able to detect a significantly higher number of pulmonary nodules (881), compared to the healthcare worker (385), a significant increase (Yang, n.d.). Another example of AI aid in diagnosis would be within pathology and error reduction, specifically for analyzing biopsy slides and blood smears. A study was carried out, which resulted in AI accurately classifying 90% of the slides used. AI used high precision to identify malignant cells, resulting in better prognosis and shorter hospitalization times (Fell, 2023).
